A Discovery Session is a free, 25-minute live call with a tutor before you book regular classes. It's how your tutor gets to know you: where you are now, what you're finding difficult, and what you want to achieve. And it's how you find out whether they're the right teacher for you.
It's optional. Already know what you need and happy with your tutor? Skip it and book and pay for your class straight away.

About Ensena
Ensena is an online platform that connects learners with real tutors and academic experts. You tell us what you need help with, browse tutors who match your level and subject, book a session, and learn live with your tutor in the Ensena online classroom.
It covers every stage of learning: primary school, secondary school, university, Master's and PhD.
Every class is live. You meet a real teacher, face to face on screen, at the time you booked. There are no pre-recorded video courses and no AI tutors.
Because your teacher is there with you, you can ask questions, ask them to explain something again, and work through problems together in real time.
No. Ensena is built for learners at every level:
Yes. Many university students struggle with a course that everyone else seems to understand, or with a final-year project they don't know how to start. On Ensena you can find a tutor who knows your course, whether that's engineering maths, accounting, anatomy, statistics, law or something else, and book live sessions to work through it.
You can also get help with understanding assignments, preparing for exams, and planning and structuring your project or thesis.
Postgraduate learners can get guidance on research design and methods, literature reviews, data analysis, structuring a dissertation or thesis, academic writing, and proofreading for journal submissions.
Support is given by people with relevant academic experience, and it's provided as guidance and learning assistance.
No. Ensena tutors help you understand and improve your work. They explain concepts, show you how to approach a question, review your drafts and give feedback. They don't complete assessed work on your behalf. This protects you academically, and it means you actually learn the material you'll be examined on.
Free academic counselling
It's a free, one-on-one session with a real, professional academic psychologist or counsellor, not a chatbot or a recorded video. You talk live, online, about whatever is affecting your studies, and you leave with practical recommendations and next steps.
A real, professional academic psychologist or counsellor, trained to help students with learning difficulties, motivation, study habits, subject and course choices, and career decisions. You speak to them one-on-one, live, at the time you booked.
No. Counselling is free for every student, whether or not you've ever booked a class. You can schedule a session as soon as you need one.
If you're not sure whether your question fits, book anyway. Your psychologist will help you figure out the right next step.
Yes. Parents and guardians can book a session to talk about their child's progress, subject choices or future plans, and how best to support them.
No. Tutoring is about learning a subject with a tutor. Counselling is about the bigger picture: why you're struggling, which direction to take, and how to plan. Many students use both: counselling to work out what they need, then a tutor to help them get there.
Free Discovery Session
A Discovery Session is an optional, free, 25-minute live session with a tutor before you start regular classes. It's a first meeting where the tutor gets to understand your pain points: what you're struggling with, your current level, your goals, and any exam or deadline coming up.
It's also your chance to see how the tutor teaches and decide whether they're the right fit for you.
No. The Discovery Session is optional. If you already know what you need and you're happy with a tutor's profile, you can book and pay for a class instantly, without a Discovery Session.
It's most useful when you're not sure exactly what you need, or when you want to assess the tutor and their teaching style before committing.
Yes. The Discovery Session is free, and there's no obligation to book classes afterwards. You only pay when you choose to book regular sessions with a tutor.
Have a rough idea of what you'd like help with. If you have recent test results, a course outline, a syllabus, past questions or a project brief, have them ready to show your tutor. Make sure you're somewhere quiet with a stable internet connection. That's all you need.
The Discovery Session is designed to be a focused first conversation, not a full lesson. The classroom timer shows the time remaining, and the session ends automatically at 25 minutes. After it ends, you can choose your next step, such as booking regular classes with that tutor.
No problem. You're under no obligation to continue. You can book a Discovery Session with a different tutor and keep looking until you find someone who suits you.
Yes. For younger learners especially, it helps for a parent or guardian to be there, so they can share concerns about their child's progress and agree on a plan with the tutor.
No. A Discovery Session is with a tutor, before you start classes in a subject. Free academic counselling is with a professional academic psychologist or counsellor, and covers the bigger picture, such as motivation, subject or course choices, study plans and career decisions. Both are free.
Tutors and classes
Tutors apply to teach on Ensena and go through a review before they can take classes. As part of their application they submit documents such as a government ID, academic certificates and teaching qualifications, which the Ensena team checks.
Each tutor has a profile showing what they teach, the levels they support and their price, and you'll be able to see ratings from other learners.
Private (1-on-1) classes are just you and your tutor. The whole session is focused on your questions, your pace and your weak areas.
Group classes are live classes with a tutor and a small group of other learners, usually working through a topic or an exam syllabus together. They cost less per person, and many students enjoy learning alongside others.
Yes. For private classes, you pick a time from your tutor's available slots and choose a session length, such as 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Group classes run on a set schedule that's shown before you book, so you can pick one that fits your timetable.
A phone, tablet or laptop with a stable internet connection. Classes take place in the Ensena online classroom, which includes video, chat and a shared whiteboard, so you and your tutor can write and solve problems together. A laptop or tablet gives you more space for the whiteboard, but a phone works too.
That's completely fine. You're never locked in to one tutor. You can book a different tutor for your next session at any time and keep looking until you find someone whose teaching style works for you.
For parents and guardians
Yes. When you sign up, you can say you're learning for yourself or for your child. Parents and guardians can find a tutor, book sessions and pay on their child's behalf.
Yes. Ensena is built so that parents and guardians can be linked to their child's account and stay informed about their learning, including upcoming classes and progress.
Tutors are reviewed before they can teach, including identity and qualification checks. Classes take place inside the Ensena classroom rather than on outside apps, and messages between learners and tutors stay on the platform. If anything ever feels wrong, you can report it to the Ensena team directly from the platform.
Pricing and payment
You always see the price before you book, and there's no subscription you're forced into.
You pay securely through Ensena when you book. Ensena holds the payment and releases it to the tutor after the session has taken place, so you're not paying someone directly and hoping they show up.
The waitlist
No. Joining the waitlist is free and doesn't commit you to anything. You won't be asked to pay until you choose to book a class after launch.
We'll contact you when Ensena opens to students. Waitlist members get early access, launch offers, and are the first to see new tutors and classes. Your details are only used to tell you about Ensena's launch.
Yes. Joining is free, and it means support is ready the moment you need it, whether that's a difficult topic next term, an exam coming up, or a project you're about to start.
